The Sydney Child Assessment and Testing Service (SCATS) is a specialist service providing IQ and academic testing for children in Sydney. Dr Taryn Bloom dedicated to providing a comfortable and supportive testing environment for children aged between 3 and 16 years. IQ and academic testing provides important information for making educational choices, and is often done so that children can be placed in the appropriate learning environments.
Testing is also a helpful way for parents to learn about their child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and preferred learning style. A report provides objective verification of a child's academic needs and details recommendations so that a child's learning environment can be adapted successfully to best fit their cognitive ability.
Specific reasons for testing include:
- Giftedness
- Learning difficulties
- School readiness
- Selective school admission
- Early entry to Kindergarten
- Boredom or behavioural problems presenting in the classroom/at home
- Admission to special educational programs (e.g., enrichment, extension and acceleration programs)
Testimonials:
"Dear Taryn, as an allied health professional myself, I know how hard testing children can be and how important it is to get the best result at the time of testing. This is the first time I have been the parent of a child in the testing situation and I couldn't have been happier. We are amazed and proud of our 4 year old boys' results! Taryn, you had fantastic rapport with our son and were able to maintain his attention and bring out his potential which I believe resulted in an accurate portrayal of his cognitive level. The report was extremely detailed and was written within 2 days. I appreciate the time you have also spent in answering my questions since receiving the report. I will keep you posted on our journey into the realm of parenting and educating a gifted and talented child!" May 2010
"Dear Taryn, thank you so much for seeing j. We were very happy with the testing and how it was carried out, it was a very relaxed environment and we felt very comfortable. I am very happy with the results s achieved in the testing and am very proud of her. The report gave me the confidence to approach the school and request that the level of work provided for j, be more challenging and at 'her' level. The school has agreed that j's talents were not being catered for and have committed to ensuring that j's needs are met in the future. So fingers crossed that this is what they needed to see her potential! I have since had a meeting with her teacher and she promises me that she will do more to help s achieve to her full potential. So a very big thank you, it was well worth my time and money to know that j's needs, will now be noticed". Dec 2010
