Bambi Kindergarten is a community based preschool that has been providing quality care for both civilian and defence force families since 1952.
It was originally established by the wives of soldiers serving in Korea, as both a support centre for them and an early childhood educational centre for their children.
Being situated on defence force land in Ingleburn, throughout the years Bambi has maintained closed ties with the defence forces while at the same time opening the doors to the civilian population in line with Defence Force Policy and Department of Community Services Policy.
Our reputation as a high quality, early childhood education centre has spread throughout the area os that we have families travelling from Prestons, Leppington, Macquarie Fields, Ingleburn and St Andrews right through to Glen Alphine and Ambervale to attend our centre.
Bambi Kindergarten is the only community based preschool on the Ingleburn side of the line between Liverpool and Campbelltown (Kindergarten Union has one at Macquarie Fields) giviing the community a much needed alternative choice to day care, especially for those families who do not need the longer hours of day care.
Bambi Kindergarten became an incorporated association on 23 August 1988. Bambi Kindergarten was accredited as a centre of excellence with the Australian Early Childhood Association's pilot accreditation program in 1993 being the first centre in the area to be recognised as such.
This reputation has taken the dedication and persistence of the staff and families over many years to develop, upgrade and maintain the centre to such a degree.
Our play area is one of the most outstanding features, being greatly admired by all visitors and a great asset to the growth and development of our young children with its established gardens and shade trees.
In 1997, a memorial garden was established in the grounds of Bambi Kindergarten honouring the soliders missing in action during the Korean combat. The Honourable Bronwyn Bishop MP unveiled the Garden. With the establishment of the memorial garden we have a liiving memorial in honour of the significant part these brave men played in the military history of this area and one we hope will not be forgotten.

Bambi Kindergarten recognises early childhood education as an essential stage in the development and preparation for life.
We encourage the learning process to be a partnership between staff, children, families and the community, where the diversity, uniqueness and creativity of each child is valued and nurtured.
The positive learning environment provides a centre of excellence where play is the basis of learning.
The child-initiated focus develops children's independence, imagination, respect for themselves and others and their living environment.
Our aim is to prepare children for school with a love of learning and life.
Philosophy
- to provide an atmosphere within the learning environment which is secure, challenging, nurturing, caring and fun.
- to recognise children's individual strengths, needs and interests by encouraging and building competence, self-esteem, initiative, creativity and personal identity within our day.
- to provide an environment for children and families to embrace the acceptance of diversity within our society;
- to encourage family involvement in all aspects of the Bambi community, to promote respect, trust, empowerment and communication at a level that is comfortable for families and staff;
- for staff to display professional conduct and be positive role models in interactions with children, families and community;
- for staff to recognise and value each others qualifications, experiences, abilities, interests and individuality whilst fostering a team approach within the centre;

Our objectives are:
By using our knowledge, experience and training, we aim;
- to provide high quality preschool education as a step prior to the more formal environment of school
- to provide high quality child care in a stable, secure, friendly and accepting environment
- to be aware always of the special needs of each individual child in the preschool
- to help each child reach their full potential in all areas of child development
- to assess each child individually and be available to discuss with parents/guardians the progress and development of their children where necessary
- to conduct regular discussions amongst staff on each individual child to ensure that all staff members are aware of the needs of all children
- to meet the individual needs of each child by planning and programming for their social, emotional, intellectual, physical and linguistic needs
- to have a wide range of activities available which are planned daily
- to encourage children to see a task through, from start to finish, building in them a feeling of satisfaction from that task completed.
- expose children to, and encourage a joy in learning about their world
Value of Play
During the preschooler's day a wide range of activities are available from which they may choose. Children learn best through first hand experience or by doing, eg touching, hearing, seeing, smelling, feeling and tasting. We plan our activities to allow the children to learn through experience and at their own pace. The program is based on the children's interests and strengths as we believe children to be capable and competent learners.
Literacy Program
As a result of Bambi Kindergarten being involved in a research proejct in conjunction with Department of Commmunity services, Department of Education and Training, University of Newcastle, Macarthur and Western Sydney and "Mapping Literacy Practices in Early Childhood", we emphasise the importance of supporting and developing children's literacy.
We acknowledge literacy as a social practice where the everyday happenings provide a rich foundation for children to develop literacy.
Some examples include:
- everyday functional texts and environmental print - such as lists, cards, food packaging, street and shop signs
- media texts, popular culture and technology - such as TV shows, advertisements, email, internet etc
- languages other than English, songs, stories, music and rhymes
The success of this program requires a partnershipo between parents/guardians and staff in the sharing of information about literacy practices at home and in the centre.
Children's Library
To compliment our literacy focus we offer a library borrowing service each week for the children. All children need to bring a labelled fabric bag to borrow a book from our library.
Children borrow from one week and return the following week on their designated library day. Children borrow library books terms 2 and 3 only and during term 4 have news time.

The Bambi Kindergarten Association Incorporated, operates for the benefits of its members, by enrolling your child in the preschool you are agreeing to become a member of the Association.
